Counting Down The 10 Biggest Time Wasters: #1
Encourager-In-Chief: August 22, 2018
Today, we complete my 10-week series to give you back more time in your day. I know entrepreneurs never have enough time to do everything they need to do. That’s all the more reason to start today with the easiest way for you to get your time back. I hope you found this series helpful.
Hands down, procrastination is one of the primary reasons you have not accomplished everything you are capable of doing. It’s the practice of postponing the inevitable. Worse than that—it is a demonstration of indecision and fear of taking a stand. If you are a business owner and you procrastinate, consider this your procrastination intervention.
Your employees need you to be a leader and to make decisions. You are responsible for completing tasks that belong only to you. You can’t do that if you are procrastinating. You are a leader, and as such, you are influencing the people who work for you. What lesson will they learn from you if you demonstrate that it’s okay to procrastinate? I know you won’t like the answer.
Your customers need you. Bad service today is unforgivable, especially if you have competition. Customers like to be treated with respect and made to feel important and special. You can’t do that if you procrastinate when getting back to them, giving them a quote, or completing their orders. Make those tasks your top priorities.
Your family needs you to stop procrastinating around the house. Just because you run a business does not give you an excuse to neglect your household and family responsibilities. If there are tasks in your house that you cannot do yourself, hire somebody who can come in and take care of them. Don’t hang your family out to dry.
Few mistakes in business are fatal. An imperfect decision made immediately is better than a perfect decision delayed indefinitely. Remember, you are the sum of your decisions. I’m challenging you to break free of the procrastination trap, put on your big-boy pants, and take responsibility for your decisions today.
