Don’t Forget Your Single Friends.

Encourager-In-Chief: January 20th, 2021

Keeping your relationships strong.

I graduated from high school in 1976. Our graduating class was very small — and by small, I mean nine students. I stayed in touch with most of them and a few of them have never married in all that time. I didn’t get married until I was 31 years old. There were times in my life where I was so lonely that the best place for me to be was with my other single friends. They really helped me get through a difficult time.

As we get married, there’s a tendency to stay away from our single friends, but I encourage you not to do so. Instead, carve out your own reconnecting time to bond and keep your relationships strong. Over the years, I’ve noticed that sometimes people with whom we were once close disappear from our lives. That’s because, at some point, we stopped solving each other’s problems.

If you pride yourself on long-term relationships, you have to be present for those people through the good times and the bad. With today’s technology, it’s possible to have a good, strong, and healthy relationship with people that we have not seen in 20, 30, or even 40 years. That means that there is no excuse for not staying in good contact with someone who has been there for you in the past.

If you happen to be married and you haven’t talked to some of your single friends for a while, it’s probably time to get back in touch with them. It’s amazing how far reminiscing over humorous anecdotes from our past or talking about the experiences of our youth can rekindle the happiness we knew decades ago. Don’t hold off reigniting somebody else’s joy. Make a call today.

Let me hear from you.

Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest. It’s about who walked into your life and said, ‘I’m here for you,’ and proved it.
