No More Procrastination!

Encourager-In-Chief: October 14th, 2020

Take action today!

If there is one plague that is almost universally afflicting business people today, it’s procrastination. As Brian Tracy so eloquently put it, “Procrastination is the thief of time.” The most interesting thing about procrastination is that it does not come from an outside source but from within us.

Have you ever been in a situation where you had so much to do that you just sat there not knowing where to begin? This recently happened to the spouse of one of my mentors after her untimely death. Apparently, she was a hoarder and he was now left with the task of cleaning out massive piles of junk. He said this went on for months because he couldn’t figure out where to start and, even when he tried to get rid of some of it, it didn’t seem like it was making any difference. He also spent an inordinate amount of times diligently going through every last item — frequently deciding not to discard any of them.

This is a very difficult process, which I experienced myself at the loss of my father in 2010. I spent hours looking through photo after photo — many of them copies of the same image — trying to decide what to do with all of them. The turning point came after long contemplation that I could not keep everything. Once you get past that sentimental attachment, it makes it so much easier to dump what you don’t need and forget about it. That was 10 years ago and I can’t think of one thing I threw out that I wished I would’ve kept.

The benefit of conquering your procrastination will be a lack of clutter and a clarity of focus. You’ll be able to see what really matters and not be distracted by trivial matters that don’t have any relevance in your life. The key to breaking free of procrastination is self-discipline, unless you have a business coach. Either way, the person who will ultimately liberate you from procrastinating is you.

I always wanted to become a procrastinator, but I just kept putting it off
