You Don't Have To Play.
Take back control of your life.
For months now, I’ve been waiting for a new client contact to schedule an appointment with me. Actually, this goes back to last year. One of my seminar host locations got a new general manager. She’s now been there for more than a year and we’ve never met or even seen each other for that matter. Naturally, I understand how somebody in a new position could be very busy, however, I have been patronizing this location for nearly 20 years. One would think that might warrant a little bit of a prompter response.
Recently, I checked to make sure that one of my biggest events scheduled at this location was still on track. After being told just two weeks ago that everything looked fine for this event, I just found out yesterday that I must now limit my event to only 25 people instead of the sellout level of 64. Just to give you some perspective, that means I would be taking a loss of over $4,200 in revenue from one of my highest-grossing events.
At that point, I decided to move my event to a location that was more customer friendly. But what I discovered was that there are other advantages to the new location. For example, it’s closer to where I live (just about seven minutes away) and more convenient to a lot of my best customers. In addition, there are no steps, which makes it much easier access for many of my clients. The new host site is also a lot easier for people to locate my room. All they have to do is walk in the front door and they are there. I also love that there’s plenty of handicapped parking right outside the front door.
I needed to get in the room one day earlier to work on a seminar prop. Even though no one was there, they made arrangements so I could get in and test out my prop at my convenience. The owners of the location are just about the nicest couple you’d ever want to meet. That’s right — I said meet — as, in person — as, in now and not one year from now. Oh, and by the way, the cost to rent the new location is less than half of what it cost at the previous location.
Every once in a while, you need to shake things up. You don’t always have to play by somebody else’s rules. Don’t wait for somebody else to give you back control of your life. If that’s what you want, you must take it. You just might find that there are places who value what you have to offer. So, don’t be afraid to look for them.
