Three things to start doing now.

There are very few people who feel they have too many sales. No matter what your industry, your business depends on new customers and new orders. Never forget that! With that in mind, here are three things that you should be doing right now or should start doing if you haven’t done them in the past.

First, network. You can never stop networking until the day you die. You’re always going to need new connections with new introductions to potential customers. Networking is not standing around and eating brie. If you go to a mixer, go there with the intention that there are some potential business connections and customers in that room. Use your time effectively.

Second, follow up. Most people think they follow up but they don’t do it consistently, timely, or effectively. I’ve noticed a trend over the last few years. People who I meet at mixers, in which we have deep, intense, and positive conversations, tend to be very bad at following up. It’s almost as if you never even met. That means that you have to work even harder to reconnect with the person once you leave that room. Is it worth it? I’ll say it is. I’ve been averaging around $600 per hour for each hour I spend in networking — provided I follow up with the person, in a timely manner, and continue to call until the two of us can speak and make plans. It may not be easy, but it will certainly be worth it.

And third, listen to your prospects. There is not a single one out there that is not facing a major crisis or problem right now. It’s your job to listen and uncover their needs and wants. Remember, we are in the solutions business. See yourself as a problem solver with great experience who can help improve people’s lives. The catch is you can’t do it unless you find out what they need and show them a solution to their problem.

The reality is there’s more business out there than you could ever handle. You just have to be willing to discipline yourself and do what it takes to go after it and claim it for yourself. Your income and your businesses success depend on it.
There are very few problems in business that more sales won’t cure.
