#7: Working Without A Daily To-Do List

Today, we continue a 10-week series to give you back more time in your day. Let’s face it; entrepreneurs never have enough time to do everything they need to do. That’s all the more reason to start today with the easiest way for you to get your time back.

You may have heard the story about how a consultant came to Charles Schwab many years ago and saved him thousands and thousands of dollars by recommending that he and his team use a daily to-do list in their steel plant. Regardless of your industry, a daily to-do list will benefit you as well.

Working in business without using a daily to-do list is like taking a long drive someplace you’ve never been before without having a map or a GPS system. You can’t seriously be in business today without having a system to keep you on task. A daily to-do list is one of the best and most adaptable tools for making sure you focus on your priorities and avoid getting distracted.

The best time to make a daily to-do list is the night before. It probably won’t take you more than 15 minutes to do, but it will save you five times your investment in execution. This is time you’re investing in yourself so you can be your best in front of your customers. When you get an unexpected phone call from a customer who is ready to buy, you’ll know exactly what you need to do in order to deliver. When you’re done with this welcomed interruption, you can check your list and pick up right where you left off.

If you have employees in your business, set a good example by using a daily to-do list. If you have people who are underperforming and you teach them how to do a daily to-do list as well, they will improve their performance and it will validate for you exactly why everybody in your organization should be using this tool.

Your competition will not wait for you to get it right.
